Cardinal Rosales forms Bishop Alfredo Ma. Obviar Foundation
By Josephine Darang
Philippine Daily Inquirer

THE CAUSE of the beatification of Servant of God Bishop Alfredo Ma. Obviar, auxiliary bishop of Lipa at the time of the Lipa apparitions to Carmelite postulant Teresing Castillo on Sept. l2, l948, has received a boost with the formation of the Bishop Alfredo Ma. Obviar Foundation, Inc.

The foundation will see to it that more Filipinos get to know and appreciate this holy man from Lipa, Batangas. Bishop Alfredo Ma. Obviar might become the first Filipino priest-saint.

The foundation aims to promote the cause of the beatification and canonization of the Servant of God and will also gather, verify, prepare and present the testimonies and documents for the diocesan and canonical investigations.
Upon his canonization, the promoter group will spread knowledge of who he is.

Bishop Alfredo Obviar Center

Danny Dolor, president of the Maka-Obviar lay apostolate, has set up the Bishop Alfredo Ma. Obviar Center in his building on P. Torres Street in Lipa. The center houses Bishop Obviar?s priestly vestments, personal belongings, spoons and forks he had used.

Dolor told me that as a young priest Bishop Obviar used to buy medicine from his mother Soledad Dolor in her pharmacy. Doña Soledad became the ninang of Bishop Obviar when he became auxiliary bishop of Lipa on June 29, l944.

Dolor speaks fondly of the late bishop. When his mother or his sister Fe Dolor Serrano got sick, he placed the estola around them giving them comfort. Dolor told me that the bishop?s staff being used by Cardinal Rosales used to belong to Bishop Obviar.

Board of Trustees
The board of trustees of the foundation includes Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, chairman; Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, president; Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles, vice president; and members, Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo; Bishop Emilio Marquez; Msgr. Wilfredo Andrey, Fr. Ernesto Mandanas, Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro; culture advocate Danilo L. Dolor, treasurer; and trustee Mother Teodora G. Juan, Mother General of the Missionary Catechists of St. Therese (MCST); a religious institution founded by Bishop Alfredo Ma. Obviar and Mother Rene S.J. Rarela, former Mother General of the Missionary Cathechists of St. Therese, now based in Vatican.

Those who experience the miracle of healing through the intercession of Bishop Obviar can get in touch with the board of trustees.
